Blackboard Inc. announced that Southern Denmark University (SDU) has adopted the Blackboard Learning System(TM) and the Blackboard Content System(TM), to support its university-wide rollout of e-Learning offerings across five campuses throughout Denmark.

Under the terms of the agreement, SDU has adopted the Blackboard Learning System, replacing the successful deployment of the Blackboard Learning System - Basic Edition. Also as part of this agreement, SDU becomes the first Scandinavian university to adopt the new Blackboard Content System, which provides enterprise content management capabilities. The Blackboard Content System supports an institution's central management, sharing and re-use of electronic files, such as simulations, lecture notes, faculty scholarship projects and student portfolios.

"Blackboard closely follows and responds to the changing e-Learning needs of academia," said Per Overgaard Nielsen, university director of SDU. "Our University stands at the forefront of using technology in the classroom, and we are pleased with how Blackboard's solutions have continued to meet our institutions expanding needs."

SDU's decision to grow its e-Learning capabilities with the further adoption of Blackboard systems will significantly expand and extend the university's e-Education initiative, including life-long learning objectives and integrating university services across multiple campuses. Blackboard's global focuses on e-Learning needs, as well as its aggressive ongoing product development investments were leading factors in SDU's choice of Blackboard solutions.

"Southern Denmark University is an extremely innovative institution with sophisticated technical needs," said Andrew Rosen, President of Blackboard's international business. "The surge in use of the Blackboard Learning System at Southern Denmark has been impressive and we look forward to our ongoing work on the deployment of the Blackboard Content System, which will further enhance the overall education experience on and off-campus."
