Vignette Corp. announced the general availability of Vignette(R) Builder release 7.0, a code-free graphical environment that gives non-programmers a fast, visual way to create and customize portlets and composite applications. With Vignette Builder release 7.0, organizations can quickly create distributed partner extranet portals that deliver the latest product and program information to their partners, improve the predictability of their indirect revenue channels, and provide real-time access to order and inventory information among their supply chain partners. Teams become even more efficient because less-technical team members can begin to integrate existing applications, or create new ones, without incurring specialized application development efforts or training costs.

Vignette Builder release 7.0 provides customers with superior support for the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) protocol, which enables organizations to deliver powerful business solutions that integrate their portals with those of their supply chain partners. With WSRP, businesses can create robust, federated portal applications that are centrally deployed but consumed by multiple, distributed portals.

Customers across the globe, including Banco de Espana, Caixa Galicia, Carnegie Mellon University, Desc, S.A. de C.V., MobileOne Ltd., ResMed and Texas State University, are successfully leveraging Vignette Builder to develop and deliver custom portal applications faster than ever. With a graphical user-friendly wizard, organizations are able to minimize the short- and long-term costs of developing and managing applications within an enterprise portal.

"The flexibility and scalability of Vignette Builder allowed us to rapidly develop a suite of personalized, self-service portlets to provide 24x7 access for customers, partners and employees," said Christopher McComas, manager of Electronic Channels at Interphase. "With our new electronic channel initiative, our customers will be able to access their latest account information, monitor orders and interact with their Interphase account team, improving customer service and overall satisfaction."

This latest release of Vignette Builder allows customers to streamline communications across all audiences, including customers, employees, partners and suppliers. Using Vignette Builder, organizations can do the following:

* Accelerate the speed of business and drive revenue across distributed supplier, retailer and manufacturer extranets by enabling partners to share real-time application access, including inventory levels and order status

* Increase employee efficiency by providing easy-to-use self-service applications including access to corporate benefits and other resources

* Drive customer loyalty and adoption through improved self-service, access to account information, and personalized content and delivery

"As one of the largest membership organizations in North America, we are constantly looking to improve the way AAA's more than 20,000 associates use our Intranet site. We've used Vignette Builder to improve their Web experience as well as the efficiency with which we develop, test and deploy applications," said Ron Morehead, director of Internet at AAA. "The capabilities of Vignette Builder enable us to quickly customize portal application templates to consistently create and deploy portlets in less time so that our associates can provide superior service to AAA members worldwide."

"From human resources to sales to partner channels, the ability to easily create and deploy standards-based portlets is something all organizations, regardless of industry, can appreciate," said David Shirk, senior vice president of products, strategy and worldwide marketing at Vignette. "With Vignette Builder, customers are now able to extract more value from local and remote applications, ultimately bringing tremendous efficiencies and leverage, including cost and time savings, across the organization."

Vignette's modular line of portal, content management, document and records management, integration, and collaboration technologies tightly integrate to streamline business processes and provide greater business efficiency. Built on industry standards, including Java J2EE, JSR 168 and WSRP, Vignette's technology seamlessly fits into virtually any computing environment and integrates with proprietary, repository-based applications such as those from Oracle, SAP AG, PeopleSoft Inc. and EMC Corp.
