Percussion Software's Rhythmyx 5, an enterprise content management (ECM) system, has been chosen for the new Web site of the V&A, a decorative arts museum.
Rhythmyx will be central in supporting and expanding the museum's new innovative Web site. The system is providing museum staff with greater flexibility and scope in managing and displaying material on the Web site. The content layout was restructured to make it easier and faster for the public to access information online.
When evaluating ECM solutions for its new Web site, the V&A wanted a system that would enable staff at the museum to create their own web pages without assistance from the Web development team.
Gail Durbin, head of V&A online and deputy director of learning and interpretation said, "The V&A's role is to increase understanding and enjoyment of art, craft and design through its collections and our Web site has become increasingly important in helping us achieve this goal. We wanted a new Web site that would enable us to give greater information and material to our visitors throughout the world and to inspire people to explore the V&A's impressive collections."
"Our priority for content management was to select a system that enabled our museum staff to manage the Web site content and reuse it. Another priority was to deploy an ECM that was flexible enough to meet our future content management requirements."
Through the deployment of Rhythmyx, the museum has published a Web site with direct links to a wide cross-section of information and an improved "What's On" section, detailing the V&A's calendar of events. The restructured Web site provides simple access to information on the museum's collections, activities and events, services for schools and students, information about things to do online and details on how to support the V&A.
The V&A selected Percussion Software's Rhythmyx over eight other vendors because it provided the greatest flexibility and most closely matched all its business and technical requirements. Features of Rhythmyx are:
* Effective Content Re-use -Rhythmyx's Active Assembly capability gives people the ability to manage content and layout. Content can be arranged into Web pages and it can be reused throughout a Web site.
* Flexibility - Rhythmyx's standards-based architecture, using XML, XSL, Java and other industry standards, integrates easily with the V&A's existing systems and platform.
* Improved User Experience - Through the implementation of Rhythmyx, and a new design from Tape London, the V&A has restructured its Web site layout, making it easier for users by introducing new interactive elements and enabling faster and more accessible information retrieval.
* Predictable Licensing Model - Rhythmyx's De-Coupled Delivery architecture, an industry-first capability, separates content production from delivery and is designed for cost-effective scaling in multi-channel environments. It will allow the V&A to extend content delivery to additional Web sites, the intranet and other channels in the future, without incurring additional costs.
Joseph Wykes, Percussion Software's managing director for European operations said, "London is home to many world class visitor attractions and we are pleased to add the V&A to our growing list of museums standardising on Rhythmyx to help them better establish relationships with visitors worldwide. Using Rhythmyx, the V&A will be able to showcase more of its prestigious treasures of art and design."
Rhythmyx 5 is an ECM solution that combines industry-first capabilities to solve the key problems of enterprise content management: content reuse and multi-channel delivery of documents, Web sites, images and digital assets. Namely, Rhythmyx provides the industry's only De-Coupled Delivery architecture for cost-effective scaling; the industry's first Intelligent Relationship capability for proactively managing all content dependencies and connections; and Active Assembly, a unique graphical user interface for enabling business users to easily reuse content.
