Marconi is enhancing its corporate website, www.marconi.com, using technology provided by Hyperwave, a leading supplier of collaborative knowledge management and e-learning software. The project is taking place over two phases and is recognised within Marconi as a major technology initiative that will reduce content management costs and enhance customer service.

In the first phase, Marconi is using a highly resilient Oracle database environment and Hyperwave to manage web content. This ‘easy to use’ technology supports simple templates and forms enabling Marconi's marketing organisation to design and place content directly to its website. This technology is supported by an automated workflow process, fully integrated with e-mail.

The second phase involves migrating partner and customer extranet sites into Hyperwave as a means of information sharing and improving services for all users while reducing document management costs.

In particular, Hyperwave enables Marconi to use a single database of information to support a full range of users cost effectively. This database gives users, ranging from sales managers to field engineers and even customers, varying levels of access to a single source of information that can be controlled and managed centrally. This ensures uniformity of information throughout the organisation and eliminates the costs of creating and managing many separate documents specific to each user group.

Tina Iglio, Marconi's VP Marketing Services & Operations, said: "The Hyperwave offering provides us with the foundation to take our web strategy forward. We see its introduction as an evolutionary project that supports our internet and extranet plans, enabling communication improvements across our business. Equally important, is that Hyperwave helps us to reduce the costs of managing these online resources by allowing their deployment in a more dynamic and targeted manner."

Terry Jordan, general manager, Hyperwave UK said, "Marconi's use of Hyperwave products is strategically important to us as it a further endorsement of our credentials as a strategic partner to major international companies. In addition, Marconi's application of Hyperwave will demonstrate the effectiveness of the product suite both in terms of service delivery and cost savings. We look forward to further strengthening our relationship as Marconi reaps the rewards of its Hyperwave deployment."
