CONET expands you@web Portfolio with Repository Manager for Connecting Domino with SAP KM

A new software product strengthens Hennef-based system integrator CONET AG's position in the market for integrated portal solutions. The you@web Repository Manager enables the use of SAP Netweaver's Knowledge Management (KM) functionality, while retaining Lotus Domino as the basic system for information storage and processing. The final release of the new product is planned for the second quarter of 2005.
"Our project experience and market research clearly show that a lot of customers want to introduce a portal solution based on the new SAP Netweaver infrastructure. However, at the same time they can not do without their established Lotus Domino system architecture for dealing with day-to-day business," Markus Marenbach, product manager at CONET AG, explains. For the integration of Notes applications with the SAP portal solution, CONET had released the you@web Knowledge Director for SAP Enterprise Portal last April. "We regard the development of the you@web Repository Manager for an additional direct connection to the SAP KM as a the reasonable next step in strengthening our market position in the area of portal applications. The integration of Notes and SAP KM will open up interesting and promising new possibilities for our customers," Marenbach says.
For just more than a year CONET, being an SAP integration partner and certified Lotus Notes specialist, has been working closely together with the software experts from Walldorf-based SAP AG in the field of portal solutions. "So far, the collaboration has been very cooperative and productive," Rüdiger Zeyen, CEO of CONET AG, points out. SAP's professional partner support made it easy to further the strategic objectives set by SAP, because, according to SAP, it is a predominant task of partners to develop applications like the Repository Manager.
The publication and subsequent worldwide marketing of the new product is planned for the second quarter of 2005. On the system side the you@web Repository Manager will support the SAP Enterprise Portal from the 6.0 version and Lotus Domino from the 6.5 version. The functional development of the software will be carried out in several steps and is expected to enable reading as well as writing access to Domino.
"We want to align the product as much as possible with the requirements of our customers," Marenbach says. "For this purpose we will establish a special Early Adaptor Program. Members will be able to make their own expectations a part of the product's development at an early stage of the definition process and are awarded with special support services for taking part in the program. The resulting exchange of know-how will benefit all participants." Further information on the program is available from CONET AG.
Portal solutions are used by companies in order to offer all their employees a central point of access to the world of data and information in their working surroundings. A real benefit can, however, only result once all the data is completely integrated into the new portal application. Especially in regard to Lotus Notes/Domino applications this has so far been possible only by investing a lot of effort and special expertise. Using the you@web Knowledge Director the portal developers do not require any professional Java programming knowledge for the integration of Notes data. The you@web Repository Manager will also connect Notes databases with the SAP Knowledge Management. Additionally, it will, when used in combination with SAP Text Retrieval and Information Extraction (TREX), enable searches in Domino data records directly from the portal interface. Together with their other extensive portal services, CONET thus offers a powerful solution portfolio for the integration of Lotus Domino with SAP Netweaver infrastructures. 12.11.2004, CONET AG - Simon Vieth
