Severstal Group, one of the world's and Russia's largest iron and steel producers, announced the launch of its corporate portal. Developed on an Oracle platform and populated by content from Factiva®, a Dow Jones and Reuters Company, the portal allows the Severstal Group's 15,000 employees to easily access critical information.

Factiva's premium content, which is embedded into Severstal’s portal, is available to all businesses within the Severstal Group through the unified portal platform. Research shows that about 50% of web searches turn up unsatisfactory results and individuals waste about two hours a week finding information that is often not relevant. This has a direct impact on a company's productivity. By launching the unified information platform and providing news and business information from Factiva's 9,000 sources directly onto the employee's desktop, Severstal will be able to reduce search time, improve findability of information, and accelerate business processes.

According to Alexei Germanovich, deputy general director, corporate communications Severstal Group, “the rollout of Severstal’s portal and the integration of Factiva's content into the daily workflow of our employees is a logical solution to support the company's strategic initiatives.”

We consider our investment in the portal as an investment into the growth of our company, and the company's competitiveness. At the same time, the portal is an integral part of the company's strategy to optimise costs and increase employee productivity,” said Mr. Germanovich.

"For organisations engaged in re-engineering their corporate portals, the need for open, standards-based technologies that integrate disparate applications is just one part of the jigsaw. Another challenge lies in populating the portal with the relevant internal and external content that enables employees to make more effective decisions faster. Factiva is delighted to be working with the Severstal Group to provide its employees with critical news and business information via this innovative portal initiative," said Simon Alterman, Vice President, Content for Factiva.
